Product summary of Norton Save & Restore

Norton Save & Restore, the first version of which was released on February 2006, is a consumer-friendly version of Norton Ghost. Norton Save & Restore creates a copy of a hard disk's contents on another drive. This is suitable for a quick recovery after a disk crash. Norton Save & Restore has all of Ghost 10's drive image functionality, but it has the additional ability of backing up and restoring individual files. This program also has a number of helpful wizards that aid users in using the software. Although Norton Save & Restore seems like an improved version of Norton Ghost, Symantec insists on keeping the two as separate products.

Features of Norton Save & Restore

Like Norton Ghost, Norton Save & Restore allows users to create and restore a compressed image of all the data on their hard disks or other storage media such as DVDs, CD, or USB flash drives. What Norton Save & Restore offers that Norton Ghost doesn't is the capability of users to select individual files to backup or restore.

Another element that makes Norton Save & Restore better than Norton Ghost is the presence of helpful wizards. For those who never had to back up their data before, they will be helped by wizards in Norton Save & Restore. These wizards automatically give suggestions and present users with a straightforward and simple weekly schedule, which users can then alter to suit their needs and work habits. Users will be allowed to tweak the suggested time, the backup location, and the kinds of file formats to backup. It takes only a little time to customize a backup schedule according to one's preferences. There are also wizards that suggest which drives are best for storing the backup in, and presents compression options to the user.

Setup and user interface of Norton Save & Restore

Installing Norton Save & Restore is similar to installing other Symantec products. There is, however, a pause during installation in which a dialog box will ask users to validate the hardware they use against the drivers database on the Symantec recovery disc. What's good about this is that in case users have to boot directly from the Save & Restore disc, they'll know that their monitor and other peripherals will be able to function properly.

This software has a design that is similar to that of the Norton Internet Security products. There is even a link to the Norton Protection Center above the Save & Restore button. This software is easy to install and use. Even those who have not backed up their files before will find it easy to do so with Norton Save & Restore. Those who have questions regarding the product and want to get some help can turn to the free online chat and email to air out their concerns. Anyone who would like to make sure that file backups are ready in case the computer crashes or files are accidentally deleted should definitely get the Norton Save & Restore. Those who want to know more about this product can find additional information on Symantec's official website.
