Looking for killer apps for your Apple iPhone?  No need to search further, because we're giving you some of the must-haves in our short list.  Here are some of the best iPhone apps this week.

Prince of Persia Retro

All right, so many of you gamers out there know and love the most recent renditions of Prince of Persia, such as those that came out for the PC, Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, PSP, DS, and Wii.  Most of the versions of Prince of Persia that have been made in recent years have been updated with cutting-edge graphics, complex story lines, and realistic worlds and controls.  Long before the Prince of Persia game franchise was polished into what we see today, the game was a simple, addictive, entertaining, and original 2-dimensional side-scroller.  Well, now you can relive all of those fun times playing Prince of Persia Retro on your iPhone.  The PoP Retro app features those nostalgic old-school graphics that will just have you smiling like you were a little kid on your MS-DOS system, Game Boy, or Atari ST.  One dollar is a tiny price to pay for a pleasant blast from the past like this gem.

BookLover

Ever since this e-book movement took off, with e-book readers like Amazon's Kindle and the Barnes & Noble Nook igniting the industry, there has been a pertinent issue that has been brought to our attention.  This is the seemingly age-old battle between the "cold" digital medium and the "warm" analog medium.  Well, now iPhone users can put all those issues aside with BookLover, an app that seeks to harness the power of digital technology to help you enjoy your much-loved "analog" (or actual) books.  With this app, you can browse through available books, adding the book to your "bookshelf," which displays the book cover, synopsis, and other information about the books.  This way, you can keep track of books you want to read or buy, as well as those that you already own or have read in the past.  You can even make notes for each book, write reviews, use bookmarks, make suggestions, categorize your bookshelf, and share your BookLover info through Facebook or email.  A great app at just one buck!

Clorox MyStain

We've all been there before.  You're sitting down to a sumptuous lunch that you just know is going to relieve all that stress you've had from your morning in the office.  You realize the time and start to worry that you won't make it to your 1:30 meeting.  In a rush and with your mind focused on your objectives for the meeting, some of that lovely spaghetti sauce splatters onto your white shirt.  Not so lovely anymore, is it?  Grab the free Clorox MyStain app and you won't have to worry so much about pesky stains, whether you're on the go or at home.  This app will give you some of the best stain-removal solutions for all sorts of stains.  Get it now or you may just regret it the next time you get a coffee stain.

Some of you iPhone users out there may be feeling a little down-and-out after hearing about the news that Android mobile phones have eclipsed the Apple iPhone in the mobile phone industry.  Still, it's important to count your blessings in times of disappointment or strife, and here are a few more blessings to count for all of you iPhone fans.  Here's a list of some of the best iPhone apps you can find this week:

BBC Listener

If you love news, history, documentaries, and mostly radio content, then you should definitely check out this handy new app from BBC called the BBC Listener.  The BBC Listener is an app that allows you to tap into both old and new radio shows that are released by BBC.  While you can find some of these radio shows in podcast format, the BBC Listener gives you access to a whole range of extra content that is typically difficult to find or non-existent in podcast form.  Get the app for $1 and you get a 30-day trial of the BBC Listener services, after which you will have to pay $13 quarterly to continue using the service.

Twitter

You can say that this app for the Apple iPhone has been long overdue.  Sure there have been a bunch of Twitter apps created by third-party developers, but none have come from Twitter itself, that is until now!  The newly released, official Twitter app comes on the heels of Twitter's acquisition of Atebits, a developer that became well-known for its third-party Tweetie 2 app, which is still considered one of the best of all Twitter apps.  Now that Twitter has acquired Atebits, they discontinued the distribution of Tweetie 2 and released the official Twitter app, which is pretty much exactly the same as Tweetie 2.  You can grab this app now for free.

1000+ Exercises

Let's cut straight to the point: exercise is grueling.  Not only do you have to put up with the whole "no pain, no gain!" attitude, but you also have to pay careful attention to your diet and your exercise regimens.  Well, 1000+ Exercises is an app that has been released by Men's Health magazine to help you create excellent exercise regimens, from daily runs and weight training to complex workouts.  You can create and save custom workouts, find links to Men's Health, or simply browse through the 1,000+ exercises this app provides at just $6.

X2 Soccer

Now, what would the list of best iPhone apps be without a game in there?  Well, this week, the game app to keep your eyes on is X2 Soccer.  Developed by X2 Games and being sold by Exient Ltd., X2 Soccer is a well-polished soccer game that can rival pretty much any other iPhone soccer game app out there.  Fresh graphics, amazing controls, and features galore help make this a must-have app for any soccer lover, gaming addict, or casual gamer.  Choose from 150 club teams, 30 competitions, play modes like "Dream Team" mode, single player or multiplayer modes, and more.  Yo can get this app for $7.

With the recent release of the iPad, much of consumer attention has shifted toward iPad apps and the likes.  Still, we know that there are lots of you out there who look forward to new iPhone app releases every day - just like we do.  So here are the iPhone apps of the week:

Square

If you haven't heard of it already, then you'll be pretty darn happy to read about it here.  Square is one of the latest and greatest innovations to hit the market.  If you have ever found yourself wishing you could receive or make a credit card payment to someone on the go, then Square is just what you've been looking for.  When you sign up with Square and pay for your app, you will get a small, square-shaped credit card swiper that plugs right into your iPhone's headphone jack.  You can then use the Square to take credit card payments straight on your phone.  You can also pay others who have the Square in the same manner.  Grab it for free and take credit card payments from virtually anyone, anywhere.

PewPew 2

Don't you love that tell-tale sound of a laser gun going off in a movie or cartoon?  "Pewpew! pewpew!"  Ahh yes, it brings back memories of watching the original Star Wars Trilogy, doesn't it?  Well, as though reminiscing about Star Wars wasn't good enough, you can now make more sci-fi, fantasy-invoking memories at the sound of "pewpew!" with the release of Pewpew 2.  Pewpew 2 is the sequel to the awarded-winning top-down space shooter PewPew.  PewPew 2 gives you more levels, weapons, unlockable ships, 60Hz gameplay, and new game modes.  Buy it for around $2 and you certainly won't regret it!

Zombie Infection

If wireframe 3D graphics and "pewpew" lasers aren't good enough for you, then you may want to engage in the more realistic, slightly more sadistic Zombie Infection.  This game is brought to you by Gameloft, a game developer that has become known for such titles as Brothers in Arms, Driver, NOVA, Avatar, and Gangstar.  Zombie Infection is a game that gives you good graphics, relatively good controls, and the undeniable fun of killing mindless zombies.  You can get the game for $7.

Karate Champ

As though we don't have enough games on the list already, here comes another one: Karate Champ.  How could we not include this on the list?  For those who don't know, Karate Champ is a video game classic that dates back to the days long before the arrival of Street Fighter and Tekken.  The Karate Champ app not only gives you classic gaming fun, but it also hopes to give you a full retro-gaming experience with arcade-style cabinet controls.  If you miss this Commodore 64 original, then you definitely need to download the Karate Champ app.  This impeccably-detailed rehash will take you straight back to your childhood.  Price isn't confirmed yet, but the game should hit the app store within the week.

With all these available apps, iPhone owners will definitely have more reasons to stay addicted to their nifty multi-purpose smartphone.

The Bikers Dream Apps Come True

Posted by: admin

Every day, thousands, if not millions of people get on their bikes to exercise, work, or play.  They bike down to a nearby park, make their way to work, make their usual rounds around the neighborhood, head down to a friend's house, join bicycle marathons, or simply ride around in front of their homes.  Those bikers who are into their gadgets have probably found lots of fun and practical gizmos to make their bike rides more pleasurable, fun, and safe.  With the expansion of the mobile phone industries and the widespread development of computer technology and software, however, one of the most useful gadgets that you can use as a biker has become a mobile phone.  Not only does a mobile phone give you the ability to make or take a call while on your two-wheeler, but the app markets that have emerged for phones like the iPhone and Android-powered devices have made mobile phones indispensable for bikers.  With the right mobile apps, you can find great bike trails, plot bike routes, monitor your exercise while biking, view your biking speed, and manage other information on your bike trips.  In this article we will cover two apps that are a godsend for bikers.

For the iPhone: Mobile Logger

The iPhone is one of the most popular mobile phones out there and many people have one of these devices.  If you own an iPhone then you are probably no stranger to the Apple App Store, which has over 100,000 applications available for the iPhone.  While there are many iPhone apps for bikers, one of the best is Mobile Logger, a multi-functional and extremely useful app for bikers and commuters of all sorts.  Mobile Logger was created by Robert Carlsen, who is based in New York City, where bikers play an integral role in keeping the city running.  The app contains loads of features that allow you to monitor, log, and analyze various facets of biking.  Some of the things that Mobile Logger can help you keep track of include your speed, altitude, heading, sound levels, trip duration, location, distance, destination sharing, and acceleration, using Google Maps for some of its features.  Grab the 2.2mb app from the App Store for free!

For Android devices: Google Maps for Android

Seeing as Android is a Google creation, you wouldn't expect us to list an app created by any other company, especially considering the fact that Google is one of the best software developers (among many, many other things) of our time.  Google Maps for Android has gotten some great new features with its most recent update.  Google Maps for Android now has a dedicated Google Maps Navigation icon, and it now has support for bicycle routing.  You can share destinations, find bike trails, and more.  This app may not be the most fully-featured biking app for Android, but it is one that can serve multiple purposes, whether for biking or otherwise.  If you are using a phone on Android 1.6 or better, you can make use of Google Maps.

Have you seen the latest apps from Apple Store?  Here we go with the list of this week's great iPhone apps:

FIFA World Cup

It may not seem like a very good idea to play a soccer game on the iPhone.  How are you supposed to pull off all of your tasty hat tricks, magical ball-handling skills, and precise ball tackles on the iPhone, right?  While the iPhone may not give you as many precise control features as your favorite console or computer gaming controller, the devs over at Electronic Arts have done a great job at making an exciting soccer game with precise controls and tons of fun gaming options.  FIFA World Cup includes a total of 105 international soccer teams to choose from, a Captain Your Country Mode, and 10 stadiums to play in.  You can get this app now for $6.99.

ePrint

It isn't all the time that you'll be printing things form your iPhone, but it can be extremely convenient and useful to be able to do so.  If you love using your iPhone for work, for keeping photos, or for any other use that may have any ties to printing, then you should definitely check out the  app called ePrint.  This app is an easy to use, straightforward printing app that has won the recognition of Macworld as one of the best printing apps for the iPhone.  This app helps your iPhone connect to printers, select printing options, and see previews of the print-out before you execute the print action.  You can try it out for free or grab the full version of the app for $3.

Joypad

Do you enjoy playing emulated games on your Mac system?  There are tons of NES-emulated games that you can play on your Mac system, but it can be quite difficult to play these games if you don't have the right controller.  If you want to enjoy your Nintendo games and other emulated games to the max, then you may want to download Joypad for your iPhone.  Joypad allows you to use your iPhone as a wirelessly connected gaming controller for your Mac computer.  Currently, Joypad only has two buttons and the directional pads, but they are working on adding more button layouts, including one for the Super Nintendo (with its d-pad and six button config).  Get the app now for just two bucks.

SoundHound

The iPhone definitely has a great default music player, and there are few, if any, music player apps that are worth switching over to from the default player.   SoundHound is one of those few.  What sets SoundHound apart from the other music player apps (including the default one) is that it has more features.  This app allows you to hum or play a recording of a song through the microphone, then it can playback and look for information on the song (like lyrics or artist and album info) with amazing precision.  SoundHound also plays back practically your entire library (apart from podcasts).  The greatest feature is perhaps its integration with the regular music player.  Close SoundHound while listening to a song, and your song will continue to play through the default player.  Best of all?  It's free.  Grab it.

As sure as the sun is hot, here are some of best iPhone apps in the market this week:

Commodore 64

By now, the iPhone has established itself as quite a useful portable gaming machine.  Just recently, however, the iPhone became an excellent portable gaming machine with the arrival of console emulators and rehashes of classics.  Commodore 64 app has been around for some time now, but a recent update made this app a freebie.  The Commodore 64 is an old school home computer system.  The app gives you access to some of the most well-known Commodore 64 games.  The free app comes with a number of titles by default and you can also access the in-app store to buy other titles in the library.  What have you got to lose?  Download it and give it a try.

Opera Mini

Opera originally made a name for itself after it released a relatively lightweight, fast, and functional browser for desktop systems.  Today, Opera is a well-known software entity and it is now delving into the iPhone app market after some controversy that Apple wouldn't be getting the Opera Mini browser.  If you want an iPhone browser that is something other than Safari, then this is a viable option.  This app has some useful features and it is a great choice for those who use an Opera browser on their desktop computers.  Check it out to see if it's the right browser for you.

Swankolab

Despite having a name that is rather unbecoming of an app of its type, Swankolab is a cool little app that you can have tons of fun playing with.  Basically, Swankolab turns your iPhone into a virtual darkroom, where you can play with your photographs and turn them into a masterpiece worthy of the glory days of classic darkroom photography.  Load a photograph from your iPhone library, then apply various chemicals to it to see how it comes out.  Some of the effects and tools that you get in Swankolab include saturation altering, vignetting, and retro-looking effects.  Another cool aspect of this app is that you can get new chemicals to apply different effects to your photos.  The uncool part?  The app costs $2 and add-on chemicals may cost you more money.

Mythbusters

Some people find Mythbusters to be a rather entertaining and educational show, which is why they decided to throw this app into the mix.  The Mythbusters app is an official app that comes from the Discovery Channel.  What makes this app cool is that it's a good mix of fun and practicality.  You can play some of the Mythbusters inspired games in the app, chat with others, check out Mythbusters feeds on Twitter and Facebook, post comments on Facebook, tweet your game scores, browse merchandise, watch video clips, and more.  Whether or not you're a Mythbusters fan, you may want to check out this app.

iPhone Apps of Week 12 2010

Once again, without fail, here are some of the best iPhone apps that you can find in the App Store this week:

SkiFree

Ahh, what fond memories some have while playing this game during their computer classes back in third grade.  If, like many others, you have been playing computer games since the early nineties, then you probably know this addictive game.  SkiFree is a simple, yet fun and addictive skiing game where you ski down an endless slope, avoiding obstacles like trees, other skiers, boulders, and the "rare" abominable snowman.  You can also jump on small ramps to gain points along the way.  Its simple graphics and gameplay make it a great game for passing time or for a good laugh.  While this iPhone version of SkiFree doesn't have the snow monster yet, it's still loads of fun and you can download it now for free.  Who knows, perhaps in future updates, you'll see that fuzzy, abominable snowman that you've been missing for all of these years.

PayPal

If you have ever shopped online or made any type of monetary transfer through the Internet, then you are probably well aware of PayPal.  PayPal is an online service that allows you to send and receive money to individuals and businesses.  It's a fast and easy way to make monetary transfers.  The PayPal app makes it easier than ever to make money transfers through the Internet.  With this app, you can check your balance, request money, withdraw funds, and more.  Not only do you gain access to all of the regular features and services of PayPal, but this app also has the "Bump" feature, which allows you to pass contacts and start transactions just by "bumping" your iPhones together.  Grab it now for free.

Etude

For the iPhone-owning musician or simply anyone who loves music, Etune is a great app that can prove extremely helpful.  The main function of Etude is to be used as a sort of electronic sheet music.  Beyond being a mere digital interface for sheet music, Etude allows you to find and choose from hundreds of songs.  The song will then appear on your iPhone in sheet music form.  Then, the keyboard interface below the sheet music shows you exactly how the notes in the song should be played.  It's easy to use and extremely useful for anyone who is musically inclined or anyone who is inclined to learn music.  There are also a bunch of customizable settings so you can get Etude working exactly how you want it to.  You can even share the music you're trying to learn with social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. The database of songs is ever-growing so get on board now.

Here we go with this week's roundup of some of the best, new, and recently updated iPhone apps that you can find in the App Store:

FCC Mobile Broadband Test

Have you ever had the feeling that your broadband provider isn't giving you the service that they advertise?  Well, you're not alone.  Do a quick search on the Internet and you'll find thousands of Internet-users, just like yourself, complaining about not getting the service that they are paying for.  Fortunately for us, the government is trying to do its part with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which is in charge of regulating US telecommunications.  Now, you can take part in helping the FCC do its job effectively and efficiently with the FCC Mobile Broadband Test App.  This app allows you to test and monitor whatever mobile data connection you are connected to.  You can test download and upload speeds, latencies, and you can share your results with others.  Pooled results can then be used to analyze the coverage and quality of various mobile broadband connections.  Grab it now for free.

Street Fighter IV

If you were (or still are) one of those kids who loved to spend hours in the arcade, parked in front of Street Fighter with your quarters at hand, then this is the perfect app for you.  Street Fighter IV, the latest installment in this classic fighting franchise, has come to the iPhone.  Now, at first, you might think, "how the heck is a fighting game like Street Fighter IV supposed to work well on the iPhone?"  Well, to keep it short and simple, it just does.  CAPCOM has done a great job of porting this game onto the iPhone and it has received rave reviews from gaming critics and gamers alike.  Of course, you can't expect to get all of the features that you'll find in the console version of the game, but the Street Fighter IV app gives you access to eight fighters, seven environments, full move sets, combination attacks, Bluetooth multiplayer, a Dojo mode for practicing, customizable control interface, and four levels of difficulty.  This app is definitely worth its $9.99 price tag and it makes for a great game for casual gamers and hardcore Street Fighter fans alike.

FourSquare

FourSquare is one of those great innovations that makes you think: "I wish I thought of that!"  Not to say that the FourSquare is the next biggest thing, but that doesn't mean that it isn't an original and innovative idea.  FourSquare is a new twist on social networking that basically allows you and your friends to keep track of where you are.  Whenever you go somewhere, whether it be a restaurant, bar, club, a friend's house, or practically anywhere, you check in through FourSquare and it keeps track of where you are and how long you have been there.  You can then share this information with your friends.  FourSquare keeps track of how frequently you go to places and how much time you spend there, and it ranks people based on this information.  It can be great fun if you're into this kind of thing and it's all free of charge.

Is it possible for the iPad developers to design outstanding apps by simply using a simulator? Well, it’s virtually impossible, so great, functional apps may be a far reality for now.

Some iPad potholes

More than two years ago, the original iPhone shipped with just a total of 16 applications, with all of these applications having been created by Apple. This measly number is quite difficult to comprehend, now that the total number of applications has already reached thousands, and Apple has no qualms about using the statistics to its benefit. For quite some time, Mac’s software catalog has been accused of being less extensive than that of Windows, but now it is clear that the tides have turned. The recent generation of mobile computing relies on functional apps for almost everything. With the release of the iPad however, some potholes are to be expected, especially with the ability of the iPhone apps to run on the new gadget.

Steve Jobs released a demo on the iPad on January, and during this time he showed how the 140,000 applications of the iPhone will run on the iPad. However, the apps do not run as perfectly as expected. If you run the apps in actual size, you will have to deal with a surrounding frame of black space. However, if you choose to blow up the size, doubled pixels render the screen into an almost comical appearance.

The crux of the problem

Now the crux of the problem is brought to light. It is almost impossible for developers to design great, functional applications when they have barely tried out the device for themselves. How will they be able to verify on the functionality of these apps if they are unable to run them on a real functioning iPad?

This was never the case with the iPhone, since everyone had become familiar with its features when the App store finally came into the picture, which was one year after the device was introduced into the market.

It is important to take note moreover that with the iPad’s touch interface, you are actually presented with more space for software interaction, and not simply for information display. Apple allowed the iWork office suite to run on the iPad, prompting developers to capitalize on the device’s bigger control surface.

However the central problem remains. Even though it is possible to run the iPhone apps on a virtual simulator, it remains impossible for developers to duplicate the actual experience derived from using an iPad, for the simple reason that nobody has ever used one yet.

Three options are currently presented.  The first is to create a twisted version of an iPhone app and second, for the developers not to produce any app until they have tried the device for themselves. A third option has been offered by developer Marco Arment, and that is for Apple not to allow third-party apps on the first day.

These days, interconnectivity between devices is one of the most sought after feature by consumers.  It would be quite useless to have a bunch of gadgets and gizmos with great features without the compatibility to communicate, transfer data, and "speak" with one another.  As such, a number of standards for interconnectivity, networking, and data transfer have been developed, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Infrared.  One of the best uses of these networking platforms is to use portable devices, such as mobile phones or laptops to control desktop systems.  In this article, we will be taking a look at some of the iPhone apps that have been designed with this concept in mind: to use your iPhone as a remote control for your Mac or PC.

Snatch

This helpful app is compatible with either Mac or PC systems.  With this app, you can use your iPhone or iPod Touch as a wireless keyboard, trackpad, and remote control.  Like many of the other similar apps out there, Snatch can be used as a multi-touch trackpad, a full keyboard, and a customizable remote control.  You can design your own layouts, place your own remote control keys, and save various layouts as you please.  This app also allows you to see a list of some of the applications running on your system, so that you can easily access them.  This works in both landscape and portrait mode.  It costs $3.99, or you can download the trial version to check it out.

HippoRemote Pro 2.0

HippoRemote Pro 2.0 is one of the most popular remote controls for the iPhone.  One of the best things about this app is that it comes in three versions, first is the Lite edition, which is a limited version that comes for free, then the basic version that costs $0.99 and has the bare necessities, and the Pro version for $4.99, which has all of the features offered in the program.  This is compatible with Mac, Linux, Windows-based systems.  Like Snatch, HippoRemote Pro allows you to create app profiles and customized remote control layouts.  You can create macros, wake up devices through LAN, use international keyboards, and switch apps easily.  There are also some nice plugins such as a browser, Boxee, and Twitter plugin.

Remote Jr.

Like HippoRemote, Remote Jr. comes in multiple versions, two to be exact.  First is the full version that costs $7.99 and other is the lite version for $1.99.  Although this app doesn't have support for keyboard, trackpad, or airmouse functionality, it does work as a Virtual Network Computing (VNC) app.  This basically means that you can see and control the interface of your remote computer, and manipulate it just as though you were right in front of your desktop.  Remote Jr. can connect to your Mac or PC through 3G, GPRS/Edge, or Wi-Fi.  Also, the newest version of the app has support for audio streaming and Apple TV functionality.
