Alternatives to AIM/MSN

I've been looking for a good alternative for a while, and I think the best is Trillian Astra.

Trillian - IM, Astra, Windows Live, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, MySpace, AIM, Email, and more!

What do you guys think?

I think a couple of my friends actually use that and they perfer to use it over individual programs such as AIM or MSN.

Is that a multi messenger that supports some of the IM's? I'm using skype. I like it's video call quality.

Yes trillian support multiple instant messengers as well as Miranda.

Yup. Trillian is by far the best especially with the plugin support. I gotta love that.

However, a lot of people I've spoken to like to use Pidgin and I can't figure out why, for the life of me, they choose to use that.
