Default SATA vs SATA 2

I have been looking into a new SATA hard drive. The ads for the various SATA 2 drives boast higher transfer speed but my friend told me that the motherboard limits are more like the speeds of SATA.

My question is whether or not the SATA 2 speeds are realistic to expect?

Default

I know the transfer rate is higher but it is also the latast interface system for SATA drives.

There's not a huge price difference in SATA and SATA 2.

I would get SATA 2

From your post I would ask what sort of motherboard you have and if you would get a big change from buying a SATA 2 over the regular SATA.

But do remember SATA 2 is the newer interface above regular SATA drive systems.
