You still need a graphics card for viewing your monitor. But compared to a high capacity graphics card, a normal size is just good for you. Maybe 64MB will be fine. Graphics cards this days are as important as having high memory RAM. Especially for those who are into gaming.

Motherboards have integrated graphics these days, but draws from the RAM for its memory, and sucks power from the CPU.

It's easier to just throw in a cheap graphics card if you really don't have enough for a high end one.

Graphics cards makes the image on your screen. Higher value graphics cards have faster speeds for 3d rendering, and have nifty little features such as processing HD video files (with the proper codec) to keep the stress off the CPU.

Graphics card is an expansion card, whose function is to generate and output images on a screen. Many video cards offer additional features, such as creating 3D scenes and 2D graphics acceleration, video capture, TV tuner adapter, MPEG-2/MPEG-4 decoding, FireWire, stylus, TV output, or the possibility to connect multiple monitors.

You can't use just any graphics card. It has to be compatible with the type of card slots in your system, not all systems have the same type of slots. Since each graphics card has it's own power requirements you'll need to a) find a card that will work with the power supply you have now, or, b) you must be willing to upgrade your power supply in order to use a card that requires more power than your current power supply can provide.

We need to know the make and model of your system (Dell Inspiron xxx, HP Pavilion xxxxxx, etc.) so that we can find out what type of card slots and what size power supply your system has. If you have a spending limit, that info would also be useful.
